The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced that Jessica Rich, the Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection (BCP), will step down. She leaves on February 16, after a dedicated 26 years of service.
Rich managed eight consumer protection divisions and was in charge of stopping fraud and protecting privacy. She brought law enforcement action against several major companies, including Amazon, Apple, Google, Volkswagen, and Western Union.
Under her leadership, the Office of Technology Research and Investigations was established, which employed many attorneys and technology specialists that helped the FTC understand the evolving world of big data and technology.
FTC Acting Chairman Maureen Ohlhausen praised her work, saying that “Many of the FTC’s programs bear her indelible mark.”
